Job title
Lecturer in Voice

Profile

I am a singer, voice and singing coach, vocal pedagogy lecturer and a Fitzmaurice Voicework teacher.

I hold a BA Hons Visual and Performing Arts (University of Brighton), MA Voice Studies (RCSSD) and PGCHE (University of Westminster). I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and also certified as one of the UK’s first Fitzmaurice Voicework practitioners, in 2014. In 2018, I acted as co-director of the international Freedom and Focus - Fitzmaurice Voicework conference in London, curating workshops, performance and research events.

I grew up in England, Canada and Scotland. As an adult, I spent nine years living and working in Cyprus as a vocal coach and singer for contemporary dance productions. Prior to become a voice teacher, I released several song collections as a singer-composer, as well as numerous collaborative recordings in the UK and Europe. I have previously worked as a voice and singing lecturer at the University of Westminster, London College of Music, Institute for Contemporary Music (ICMP), Ravensbourne College and Trinity Laban.

I have ongoing vocal coaching partnerships with Jean Abreu Dance and the dramaturg Guy Cools (London/Brazil) and Lia Haraki and En Drasi  (Cyprus). Within my field, I am interested in vocal laments, voice and trauma and vocal identity as a result of emigration and immigration. My work with Jean Abreu Dance and Guy Cools is centred around explorations of vocal and somatic lamenting.

My professional memberships include the British Voice Association (BVA), Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA), PRS/ MCPS and FHEA.
