Schools & Colleges Liaison

Central Connects (formerly the School of Professional and Community Development), an outward-facing department of Central School of Speech & Drama, is committed to high quality enhancement and application of knowledge about theatre and performance techniques within local, national and international communities.

Central Connects is committed to working with school students and their teachers, offering a range of both free and fee-paying activities. We are always delighted to develop courses for schools, if you have a specific training need which you would like to meet. Our team of highly qualified educational experts can also offer consultancy and evaluation for education providers.

We work with both public and private schools offering projects, workshops, interventions and innovations. Aside from our work with schools, we undertake outreach work with a range of community venues, as well as organising community events which aim to provide social and economic benefit for our community friends and partners.

Widening participation outreach at Central

Central's widening participation strategy has four primary aims:

  • to increase participation from diverse backgrounds;
  • to continue to develop initiatives that sustain diversity in the student and staff population;
  • to remove the range of barriers impacting on access to Central and to the field of theatre and performance arts;
  • to continue to build upon community engagement activity within Central, both nationally and internationally.

Central runs a series of workshops and projects designed to support access to drama courses in higher education, and to facilitate research into young people's decision-making in relation to studying the dramatic arts.
